Share of Voice

Share of voice (SOV) shows your brand's share of total AI mentions compared to competitors. It answers a simple question: when AI models talk about your industry, how much of the conversation belongs to your brand?

How it works

Cleotic counts the total number of brand mentions across all responses for a given time period, then calculates each brand's percentage share. If your brand was mentioned 45 times out of 100 total brand mentions, your share of voice is 45%.

The SOV chart displays:

  • Brand name -- Each brand in your project
  • Share percentage -- The brand's portion of total mentions
  • Mention count -- The raw number of times the brand was mentioned

Brands are displayed as a horizontal bar chart, making it easy to compare at a glance.

Why share of voice matters

Visibility score tells you how prominent your own brand is. Share of voice tells you how you compare to the competition in absolute terms.

A few scenarios:

  • High SOV, high visibility -- You're dominating the AI conversation. Focus on maintaining your position.
  • High visibility, low SOV -- Your brand is mentioned when it comes up, but competitors are mentioned more often overall. You may need broader prompt coverage.
  • Low SOV but growing -- You're gaining ground. Check what's driving the improvement and do more of it.
  • Declining SOV -- A competitor may be creating content that's shifting AI perception. Investigate which prompts and models are changing.

Date range filtering

Like all analytics, SOV supports date range filtering with preset options (7 days, 30 days, 365 days) and custom date selection. Compare different time periods to spot shifts in competitive positioning.

Using SOV strategically

Share of voice is most useful as a competitive benchmark. Track it over time to:

  • Measure the impact of content changes. After publishing new content targeting AI visibility, watch whether your SOV increases.
  • Spot competitive threats. A competitor's SOV climbing rapidly may indicate they're actively optimising for AI visibility.
  • Report to stakeholders. SOV is an intuitive metric that non-technical stakeholders can understand immediately. Use Reports to share this data.
